Spotting the Fake “My Aged Care” Call

Scammers are impersonating Aged Care assessors around Bribie. The red flags and how to verify a call is genuine.

Published 20 April 2026 · Tech Talk · Virtue IT

With recent updates to the Support at Home program this year, scammers are unfortunately taking advantage of the confusion. Many Bribie residents have reported receiving calls or home visits from people claiming to be “Aged Care Assessors” asking for personal or financial details.

The Red Flags

A legitimate Aged Care assessor will always schedule a visit in advance and will never ask for your bank details or “processing fees” over the phone. If someone calls you out of the blue claiming your “My Aged Care” account is locked or needs urgent verification, be extremely cautious.

Verify Before You Comply

If you’re unsure, hang up. You can always call the official My Aged Care line on 1800 200 422 to check if the contact was genuine. Never click on links in text messages that claim you have a “refund” waiting or a “compliance issue” to fix.

Keeping it Simple

The safest way to handle government services is through the official apps or by typing the website address directly into your browser. If a caller is pushing you to “act now or lose your benefits,” they are almost certainly a fraudster.
